About the Artist:
Sarah Faux miraculously turns floppy body parts into a positive attribute. Her paintings on cut paper are casually slapdash but come together with an uneven poetry, the wobbly outlines describing archetypal shapes that have more in common with the Venus of Willendorf than a pin-up poster. “Tits” presents an abstraction of the titular organs dipped in bright blue while “Legs” is a chunky pair of crossed limbs, silver over wetly brushed red.
Faux’s “Lovers” series are faces seen from somewhere around the chin, a bedroom angle. The blotchy faces grimace or smile, it’s never quite clear, but then things so close up, as seen through half-closed eyes, are never quite in focus.
